You can now reply to comments directly!

Author: luq | Files under Blogging, software

It’s always difficult to engage in direct conversation in the form of blog comments as you can’t really respond to a comment directly, rather you’ll have to use operators like ‘@commenter’ (probably derived from Twitter) to notify a commenter that you are replying to him.

Thanks to the ‘WP Threaded comments’ by Chinese blog 2i2j, you can now reply to specific comments in a post. There are more popular plugins which does this but this is the most user-friendly one as far as I know as all you need to do is activate the plugin and you are done! Also you can configure if you want to send an email to the commenter if there is a reply to the commenter’s response.

However, I am still not convinced the system is entirely bug free as it’s not the most popular plugin out there though its rating is high in its wordpress plugins page. I tried adding multiple comments to a single comment and more comments to those comments as well and it looks like it’s working fine. I also tried it on IE and it seems alright but I would love to have a larger feedback so please leave a reply below if you have problems when replying to existing comments.

Also there are a few hiccups as well. You’ll need Javascript to be enabled to reply to comments (that’s ok because Google Analytics says 97.5% of visitors have Javascript enabled) and also if you reply to a comment Gravatars and CommentLuv won’t show on that comment. Other than that it’s all good.
