If you have a blog on wordpress, you will probably be aware that a couple of days ago WordPress released an ‘all new’ version of wordpress. Version 2.7 is virtually a revamp since version 2.5 in terms of appearance and I must say I like the update.
The theme has shifted from a blue and orange to a greyish theme. Their official 2.7 release post starts off with the highlight of their new version:
The first thing you’ll notice about 2.7 is its new interface. From the top down, we’ve listened to your feedback and thought deeply about the design and the result is a WordPress that’s just plain faster. Nearly every task you do on your blog will take fewer clicks and be faster in 2.7 than it did in a previous version.
and i guess the version has lived up to that description. As they’ve stressed on ‘fewer clicks and faster’, the new version is a lot faster in terms of navigation. Also clutter has been reduced as now you have the option to hide any part of your admin panel you don’t use and i’m pretty sure all wordpress users have parts of the control panel which they’ve never used.
Still remaining on the speed factor, you no longer have to visit the settings page before you get to the settings of one of your plugins, the different settings available in the settings page can now be accessed using a drop down menu from the sidebar. Also all elements of the sidebar are ‘widget like’, with an arrow next to each of them to collapse or expand them and rearrange them based on your requirement.
Also the other feature which will probably grab your attention is the optional ‘turbo version’, which with the use of Google Gears, speeds up your blog customization by storing and loading components of your admin panel locally.Based on my experience though i haven’t really noticed much of a difference in terms of loading speed.
Summing up, the main improvement in the new version lies in the user-friendliness and speed to get things done while you are administering your wordpress blog. Other anticipated changes are the automatic installation of plugins and upgrading of your wordpress version, so what are you waiting for? Upgrade your wordpress for the last time now!
