Track your web stats with Google Analytics

Tracking user statistics is an integral part of hosting a website. Knowing visitor’s details is important to keep the website running and optimize the service the website provides.

While there are many web trackers available ranging from free services to paid services, few webmasters know that the web giants Google themselves provide an excellent free web tracking service.

It collects comprehensive usage statistics such as page views, geographic location and also the originating link and displays them graphically using pie graphs, bar graphs, and also provides other features like setting up goals and tracking progress. Some of the other information it provides are top pages, entry and exit pages, bounce rate. It also offers in depth statistics of visitors like browser, OS, resolution, screen colors, Javascript status and more. In short, it is difficult to find a visitor detail that cannot be found by Google Analytics.

Just like other services it requires pasting a small piece of HTML code in your website’s HTML, the invisible counter then tracks usage statistics.

With the stats it provides there is no reason to switch to Google Analytics. It’s free, it does not require you to leave a link back and it does not slow down your site’s loading time. The only one drawback about it is (there I found one!) is that it takes a bit of time to process visitor statistics, maybe a few hours late at the most but i think it’s worth the wait!

It is definitely a service worth checking out. Visit the Google Analytics main page and sign up with your Google account.
