10 Tools to Recover Deleted Files

I recently enlightened you on how you can recover your deleted files, well there are dozens of similar software tools (freeware and shareware) developed for this purpose however their performance may vary, below I’ve highlighted the top 10 tools which perform this function for this purpose based on how effective they are, price, operating system support and their overall popularity based on community feedback.

recuva

Recuva (freeware) is one of the most popular file recovery tools, from the same developers of the popular, reputed CCleaner, Recuva quickly searches files deleted and displays them with info on whether the file is ‘healthy’ enough to be recovered as well. The only issue with this program would be no Windows 7 support yet however it should be in the works.

glary undelete

Glary Undelete is a free and easy-to-use yet powerful file undelete solution for FAT and NTFS file systems. It will bring back files emptied from the Recycle Bin, in a DOS window, from Windows Explorer with the SHIFT key held down. It will even recover files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses. The features are quite similar to Recuva and some of the other programs in this list. Support all operating systems except Windows 7.

diskdigger

DiskDigger (freeware) can recover files from any type of media that your computer can read. This includes USB flash drives, memory cards (SD, CompactFlash, Memory Stick, etc), and of course your hard drive. The types of files that it recovers include photos, videos, music, documents, and many other formats. It functions on all Windows operating systems except Windows 7.

pandora file recovery

Pandora Recovery (freeware) allows you to find and recover recoverable deleted files from NTFS and FAT-formatted volumes, regardless of their type – you can recover pictures, songs, movies or documents.

easeus deleted file recovery

EASEUS Deleted File Recovery is a fully functional freeware designed to recover deleted files from all types of media such as Hard Disk Drives, Floppy Drives, Smart Media, Compact Flash, Memory Sticks, and other types of removable media.

pc inspector file recovery

PC Inspector File Recovery is a data recovery program that supports the FAT 12/16/32 and NTFS file systems. Works similar to the other alternatives listed however does not support Windows 7 or even Windows Vista.

softperfect-file-recovery

SoftPerfect File Recovery is a free and useful tool to restore accidentally deleted files from hard and floppy disks, USB flash drives, CF and SD cards and other storage media. It supports the popular file systems such as FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS and NTFS5 with compression and encryption. Works on all Windows operating sytems except the latest Windows 7.

pctools-file recover

File Recover allows you to recover critically important documents, or other files, which have been lost by accidental deletion. These files may be lost by emptying the Recycle Bin, or using other deletion actions that bypass the Recycle Bin altogether. Such actions include Windows® Shift-Delete, command line deletion, deleting excessively large files or using applications that delete files without the Recycle Bin. PC Tools File Recover is not freeware and will cost you approximately $43 however it is the only application that acknowledges Windows 7 support.

data rescue II

While mainstream popular application types like media players and such are available in Mac, other less required applications like file recovery are hard to come by, however Data Rescue II is a file recovery application for Mac that lets you recover deleted files. Data Rescue II is not freeware and isn’t exactly economical as well (around $100) however if you require a file recovery tool for Mac, it should be the best alternative to go with. It is also compatible with the latest Snow Leopard.

easeus-linux-file-recovery

This is a file recovery tool to recover linux files. It can recover your valuable data with its three function modules: Delete File Recovery, Complete Recovery, and Partition Recovery to retrieve your lost data from any kind of data disaster.
