Computer Realm has been DoFollow for a while. Sadly, spammers are all out for exploiting DoFollow blogs by leaving comments with different keywords of low quality. With the addition of Computer Realm to several ’100 DoFollow blogs’ lists that percolate the blogosphere it’s been hard work moderating all the legit looking comments and determining if they are to be deleted or approved.
Recently, i’ve been very strict approving comments and now I’ve finally decided to turn off DoFollow. This maybe temporary, I’ll watch how the nature of comments are over the next few days and determine my next move. There’s still the Top Commentators plugin to take advantage of the page rank on this site, however any links within comments have the ‘rel=nofollow’ attribute on them again.
PS – Computer Realm should be in full swing in terms of activity before the end of June. Until then or even after guest posts are still welcome, if you are interested just send me a mail and I’ll be happy to post them if they are of good quality and relevant to the niche of course.

ok its my first visit to your blog , I searched it from one of do-follow lists but I am not a spammer . Don’t you think webmaster should fight against spammers rather then creating barriers so that genuine commentators also feel like loosers

the only way to fight low quality comments from commentators looking for some keyword marketing would be to disable the dofollow feature. that way only genuine commentators who really want to express their opinion and contribute to the post would leave comments.

I actually do not understand why they created the feature dofollow or nofollow. I know dofollow will gain backlink for commentator. But what the main reason for webmaster to use dofollow / nofollow plugins. I think that comment just to leave a relationship or gain some traffic. thanks

One of major problems now is that spammers are becoming more sophisticated in the approach. There are countless examples of what look to be legitimate comments getting past Askimet and other filters. I guess you have two choices – nofollow (as you’ve done) or hours of sifting comments.

And considering the lack of time on my hands currently as i have stated in a post before, i think the better option would be nofollow, thanks for the comment.

Agree Spamming is big issue because of spammers some genuine readers feels fear to put comment may they get deleted or hard to provide feedback for new readers who newly come to blog, but hope you try some clever idea.

Hmm, you’re nofollow now but a spam comment still slipped through. At least that’s what my predecessor seems to be. How do you explain, Sir? I guess no matter what one does spammers always find a way. So might as well be dofollow. Mind you, I’m still new to the blogosphere…will check out your blog now.

yep, it can’t really completely remove the spam, it’ll still keep coming, but turning off dofollow has greatly decreased the spam i should add and saved me a lot of time. thanks for the comment.

I used akismet for a while but the false positives issue resulted in losing valuable comments from commentators every now and then if i happen to miss it in the pile of spam, spam karma on the other hand has a smaller or even negligible ratio of false positives.

I would like to appreciate the great work done by the web master. they should post their interesting comments and make this blog interesting…. It’s really great to post my comments on such a blog.

I for one completely agree on the enabling back the “nofollow” attribute on the comments. Personally I think that having just the “top commentators” as a way to reward commentators is more than enough. There is no need to go any further by having all the comments as “dofollow”. And plus by you putting back the nofollow tag, it will help strengthen your website, which in the end is what really matters.
On my personal blog, I run a top commentators widget, and I accept all comments that are genuine, but I really hate the ones that just say “great post” that add no value to my blog.

great comment! exactly, with the nofollow back on, the ‘great post’ comments and also the usual spam have reduced a lot and moderating comments take a lot less time thus i have more time creating content and marketing the site. i think commentluv plus top commentators is good enough exposure for the commentators. thanks for the comment once again!

I turned off dofollow a long time ago. It actually started when I redesigned the site and it was off for a time. I actually got cursed at by people claiming I somehow misled them because my link was included in some “super secret” list of high pr blogs w/ do follow going around the internet.
Sorry, it isn’t a right. And none of my actual readers seemed to care.
So I took it off and have been quite happy not having my comment box cluttered w/ “nice post” type comments from people only looking for the backlink to an irrelevant site.
