How to Record Your Screen Activity

By

Ever needed to capture your screen in action? You might need this feature for several reasons, the main purpose would probably be to create on screen video tutorials for explanation, or you might just want this feature as it’s ‘cool’. In any case there are a few applications that let you perform this function, I’ve highlighted the best ones for you below:

Camstudio (Windows)

camstudio

Camstudio (freeware) is one of the most popular open source software created for this purpose, it allows recording any on screen video and audio in AVI or Flash format. It also provides other handy features like annotating your videos to provide guidelines to your video in the form of text captions if you prefer supporting your video with text captions rather than voice. Camstudio is totally free for personal or commercial purposes.

Capturelib (Windows)

capturelib

Capturelib (shareware) is similar to Camstudio and provides similar features, it provides a few extra features like highlighting and simulate certain sounds to add effects and a few other features as well to polish the final video. This application maybe suitable if you are looking to create screen recordings for your business or for any commercial purpose as it’ll cost you around $35.

Other Operating Systems

The main drawback behind non-windows operating systems is the lack of software available for a particular function, fortunately after a bit of searching I found similar for products for Mac and Linux as well:

Don’t forget to leave your feedback on the software highlighted above as well as your recommendations on other screen recording software if you have any.

I use to use camtasia while my free trial lasted, but I had to make the switch to Camstudio because it was a free alternative, but I must admit I do miss camtasia :(

      Till then,

Yeah, Camtasia is a powerful screen recorder with editing feature. When I tried it for 30 days. Later I turned to another screen DemoCreator. Now I am also using the free alternative Camstudio.
