Formally dominant Web browser Netscape, now owned by AOL said goodbye to the Internet two days ago. Netscape which has gained countless amount of reputation over the years as an efficient and user-friendly browser is now longer supported to users.

With its initial hype in the mid 90’s it has since fallen with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer which was partly caused with Microsoft bundling Internet Explorer with the dominant Windows OS which led to a burst in popularity which Netscape couldn’t recover from. Since IE’s take over of web browsers in use other browsers like Mozilla Firefox has recently taken center stage and providing an application worthy enough to compete with most popular browser Internet Explorer.

Netscape also recommends that all Netscape users shift to Firefox or Flock (which is another popular Mozilla based ‘social’ browser) as the Mozilla browser engine was built based on Netscape.

During Netscape’s prime many failed to see the line between the Internet and Netscape. It has gained a lot of reputation and fame which will probably be passed onto Firefox.
