If you are into any form of creating or editing with your computer that involves color you might probably need to know the exact hex value of that really cool shade you noticed on a website or in a random application, whether you want it to be a part of the color scheme on your website, be a color on a graphic you designing or the color of an outfit in that addictive , interactive game you play, you might need to know the exact hex value of a color at some point.
Well there are quite a few tools that let you do this however some tend to ‘malfunction’ returning a wrong shade, however there are two applications that actually does its job pretty well.
Usually you’d find a color you fancy on a website, so I’d recommend you try out ColorZilla, which is a Firefox addon that lets you retrieve the hex values of any spot in a website loaded in Firefox. I personally use this addon whenever I need a specific color and it works great.
If you are looking for a broader reach to grab a color off any other application or your desktop, etc. ColorPic will let you do that, ColorPic works with your browser as well and is absolutely free.
There are few other similar applications as well, but Colorzilla and Colorpic is pretty much there.

I love this Addon For Firefox, especially since I don’t have to guess what the color is, whenever I am doing something in photoshop, and I can just get the hex code and be able to plug it in, to just about anywhere I want!
Till then,
Jean

Unfortunately, you have to install this ColorPic tool before using it. That is not very good, especially if you are looking for one or two colors from time to time. So, I have searched for another tool and I have found it. It is called Pipette and it is portable, free and you have the same possibilities to pick up colors from your desktop. Here is the websiet:
