Recently the popular social network MySpace was ‘malwared’ again. The malware coding was embedded in the music star Alicia Keys’ MySpace profile page. Once the victim visits Keys’ page, the malware requests the user to download to ‘watch the video’. The program then installs malware into the victim’s computer.
The link redirects to a well known Chinese malware website. One of the sources said the code was cleverly embedded which contained unusual coding which ‘links’ a large part of the page to the malware website.
The malware was also installed into other another French rock band’s profile as well. This malware intrusion is not new to MySpace. Some time back another malware was installed into another artist’s profile page which executes websites while the victim watches videos on QuickTime Player. The player was then updated which patched the bugs that allowed malware to be installed in the user’s computer.
The fact that MySpace contains lots of rich media convinces victims that the ‘codec problem’ trick that the malware plays is legit.
Even though these breaches happen the MySpace authorities are quick to detect these breaches and patch the problem. With consecutive successful security breaches to MySpace’s network it won’t be surprising if there will be more malware attacks in the near future.
