Ever spoken to one of those chat bots? Impressive don’t you think? Well somehow it always makes us raise an eyebrow when we see something virtual respond correctly (at least to a certain extent) with an apparent mind of its own. It’s always nice to welcome your visitors with a pleasant surprise that makes them raise an eyebrow impressed with how ‘smart’ your site is. Referrer Detector lets you do just that.
Referrer Detector is a handy plugin that identifies the source of the visit to your blog and greets them based on that source. For example if a vistor finds you via Google they’d be greeted with a message like this:
The plugin, by default has several pre-loaded popular sites with a custom greet message however you may add any number of new entries and completely customize the text and icon to display. Installation is pretty straight forward and usually integrates with your site theme. If it doesn’t you can easily include a template tag in your theme files to display the welcome message wherever you see fit.
This plugin is innovative (you don’t see it on many sites now, do you?) and instantly gives new readers a reason to stick around, it could also be used to increase social media promotion and RSS subscription by including relevant messages in the welcome text.
