Maintenance on your WordPress Blog? Let us Know!

If you’ve been following Computer Realm over the last couple of days,  you might have noticed the changes I have been making, including very visible ones like the new theme. If your blog is reasonably popular there’s going to be a few users who happen to see your blog ‘in the nude’ while you make any drastic visual changes to your blog.

Most bloggers wouldn’t mind the ‘exposure’ to the comparatively few visitors however if you are looking to build a successful blog every visitor counts. After all it’s the visitors that we create a blog for. We’ve all seen well established websites go on ‘maintenance mode’ so why not follow suit.

You can easily implement this feature while making any changes to your WordPress blog with the Maintenance Mode plugin. Once activated, all you have to do is enable ‘maintenance mode’ and your site will not be visible to any users except you, the admin. All visitors will be displayed with a page like this:

maintenance-mode

And of course the message on the maintenance page is completely configurable via the plugin settings page. Once you are done with the changes, just go back to the settings page and deactivate maintenance mode. There, all the messy work done and no one has to know!

Yeah I think it is important to go into Maintenance mode, I honestly don’t think it will affect the search engines or anything like that by doing so. I have seen websites go down for a week, and come back, and not lose anything in the search engines. So definitely you need to make the changes based on your users and put that Maintenance sign up! :)

    Till then,

I’m totally ignorant in these matters. But I imagine that once it’s set up, maintenance is easy? I’ve used LiveJournal for five years, but now I want to be on my own, after hearing about hackers deleting entire accounts, and realizing that spammers get anywhere! Plus everything ends up being a network. I want to be on my own!

LiveJournal is one of the less popular blog platforms, in comparison to wordpress and blogger that is, i hear good feedback on the service however everyone agrees with the flexibility, support and functionality of wordpress being the best.

yes, opera has its built in bittorrent client, i’d however still recommend a dedicated client like utorrent as its faster and more efficient.

Using this plugin is better rather than simply edit your website without any sign, no wonder if someone open your website and found your website in messy. Actually myself not put any sign when editing my website, next time I will try using this plugin.

    Thanks

I’ve seen this plugin in action and am considering using it on my news blog. You don’t want to scare visitors into thinking your blog has vanished off the face of the earth.
