Rating Description

  • Interface

Features a basic windows style interface. Allows the choice of 3D or non 3D icons. excellent placement of objects on screen with buttons on top. Menu-driven as well.

  • Ease of use

Easy to use application with fully compatible browser integration.

  • Memory usage

Consumes very little memory.

  • Popularity

Reasonably popular application though could improve further. The main reason for the lack of popularity due to the fact that it is not a free product.

  • Price

The main disadvantage of the program. While $29.95 maybe a reasonable price, virtually all other download managers which are just as good are provided for free.

  • No. of bugs

Does not contain critical bugs. Contains a few bugs with the interface mainly with the 3D buttons feature.

  • Download acceleration

The only program which accelerates upto 600%. Guaranteeing efficient download acceleration.

  • Maximum no. of download streams

The only program which allows this many streams. This feature contributing to reaching that 600% acceleration mark in some cases. While the increase in speeds maybe by only a few kilobytes when more streams are used it does contribute to the overall speed.

  • Compatibility

Supports efficient browser integration for most web browsers. Does not support ftp downloads at all in some cases. While in other cases downloads the file without the pause download feature capability.

  • Bandwidth cooperation

Does not support bandwidth cooperation but allows sufficient bandwidth to surf the net alongside downloading a file. Supports other similar features though like maximum MB to download for a day.

Other details

Badware free?

Totally spyware, adware & virus free.

Disk space occupied:

Installer size - ~3MB

Installed directory size - ~3MB

Limitations in free version:

No limitations for 21 days.

Other distinctive features:

One of the distinctive features of IDM over other download managers is an applet it contains named ‘the Grabber’, this tool allows you to assign a domain name and it then searches for any downloadable files in that domain name and lists them which could then be downloaded by the user.

Overall (5/5):

While IDM comes with a price tag attached to it, based on its features it may well be called the best download manager available in the market.
