How to Copy Your Files Faster

By

Do you copy files often? With the performance of computers increasing by the day, and having spoilt us with most functions computer related performed ‘instantly’ copying files can be a real hassle as they aren’t really instant as we’d want them to be, with faster USB ports, portable devices and processing speeds, copying files have become faster over the years however there’s still room for improvement.

There are a few file managers and applications that acknowledge to deliver faster copying speeds, some of them work while others not so much. TeraCopy (Windows) is a freeware application dedicated for just this purpose. According to their website, “TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times. Asynchronous copy speeds up file transfer between two physical hard drives.” I saved myself the process of understanding that sentence and tried the application instead to find the software actually does speed things up a bit.

While copying several files of different sizes using Teracopy and the default Windows explorer, I found Teracopy to be 0% to 200% faster than the Windows explorer so this application does work. It also provides several other features that could come in handy. I’ve used several computers to find that sometimes copying files make the processor slow to the extent that no multi tasking can be done, with Teracopy you can pause and resume copying so this feature caters to these users.

It also integrates into shell allowing you to copy files directly using Teracopy, it also helps copying files partially (useful when copying files from damaged optical disks) without the entire transfer being terminated.

While I stated above that the application is free, it does have a pro version as well with a few extra features but in my opinion the free version is sufficient. Don’t forget to leave your feedback on other similar software and also your reviews on Teracopy.
