How to Take Care of Duplicate Bookmarks

Are you a bookmark junkie? Do you haphazardly bookmark pages for ‘later use’. Whether you actually would refer it later or never look at it again. Nevertheless, at some point of realization you might find your bookmarks completely cluttered without any organization and also the possibility of duplicates within your bookmarks.

I recently pointed you in the right direction with duplicate files in your computer, this scenario is just as a hassle if you try to perform it manually and fortunately has tools that let you fix any duplicate bookmarks and also prevent you from adding them the moment you attempt to add a duplicate bookmark as well.

bookmark-duplicate-detector

This is a Firefox add-on that lets you efficiently store only unique bookmarks in your Firefox browser. It also notifies you if you attempt to add a bookmark that already exists. Bookmark Duplicate Detector is freeware and is a cross-platform add-on, yet another reason to switch to Firefox. Unfortunately it’s still not available on the latest Firefox 3.5 yet however based on its popularity, reviews and support by the community we should hopefully see an updated version soon.

am-deadlink

This is another popular freeware application for Windows only that lets you get rid of any duplicate bookmarks in Firefox, Opera or Internet Explorer. In addition it also fixes tiny issues like downloading Favicons and detecting broken links as well.

If you are a Mac or Linux user who doesn’t use Firefox, I am still unaware of any application that is compatible with your browser and OS, if you are aware of any similar application compatible with these operating systems which is available for other browsers please share it in the comments.

I think this is a great way to reduce clutter with your bookmarks, also the feature in AM-Deadlink that lets you detect dead links could still benefit you even if you are not a disorganized bookmark junkie.
