The time taken for a computer to startup and ready for you to using it is a critical factor. This duration depends on many factors:
While it may depend on all the other above factors, which contribute at least in a minute way to every computer the main factor that affects the speed of your computer booting up is the number of applications run.
Ideally the only programs that should be run should be your Anti Virus program and Anti Spyware program, and may be even your firewall software if your computer is prone to a lot of hacker attacks, the latter two not being necessary if your computer does not have any connectivity to the internet.
While the above programs are the only required programs which are generally needed to be run by your computer most other software like messengers, download clients, and in some cases even media players are assigned for startup upon installing the application. While the option of assigning the program for startup may be controlled from the program options most users allow these applications to be run on startup resulting in their computers taking ages to load.
This problem could be easily fixed, either by opening these programs individually and disabling the startup option or just go to Start > Run > “MSConfig”>Startup. From here you can control all applications assigned for startup and disable any programs that are not required.
Here you can also find other malicious software including viruses, spyware and Trojans that have assigned ‘themselves’ for startup. If you Anti-Virus or anti-spyware software haven’t detected these programs, it is recommended that you update the definitions of the programs and even still if these programs go undetected I recommend you switch to a different anti virus and anti spyware program, like Kaspersky Anti Virus and Ad Aware SE Anti spyware. (You can’t just disable the malware assigned for startup as the program has a way of re-creating the startup entry in the registry)
Once you have done some changes and made the necessary adjustments in terms of anti virus and anti spyware programs you are using you will find that your computer boots up much faster now. If the computer still takes quite a bit of time to startup, it’s probably your RAM, speed or disk space (specially your system drive), if you have under 1GB of disk space, or a RAM under at least 256MB with a speed of 1GHz, you should consider upgrading your computer.
Once all the above have been looked after you will definitely find that your computer boots up very quickly.
