A bug was discovered in the popular Google Toolbar which opens the risk of allowing malicious software to be installed or data to be stolen from phishers on the user’s machine.
The bug lies in adding the browser buttons in the application. Phishers could convince users to download an application from a trusted source like Google, though it is not from Google, this is where the bug lies.
While the bug is new, Google is working on it and we can be sure that it will probably be fixed any time soon. Also because of the number of steps victims have to go through to actually install the malware into the system (download the button, open the application, and allow application to download the malware), it is considered a low risk threat. Still with the number of Google Toolbar users it does bear a potential risk to users who are unaware.
It would be advised to keep from downloading any browser buttons or enhancements to the Toolbar until the bug has been fixed.
