Rating Description

  • Interface

Features an attractive, simple interface, the main window consisting of just the playback buttons and a ‘GOM’ icon on the top left which opens a single menu with all details (file, edit…) integrated into the single menu. Supports full screen navigation. Supports skins which could be downloaded additionally from the GOM website.

  • Ease of use

Easy to use application with a simple interface tab based easily phrased preferences.

  • Memory usage

A very ‘light-weight’ application which takes up a very little memory and opens and closes quickly.

  • Popularity

While it has gained good ratings and comments online the lack of popularity lies in the fact that there are many similar types of players available, with a few better ones as well in terms of codec and a few other features.

  • Price

With a player of this standard, supporting most of the major features of a good media player the company may have been tempted to chip in a price but decided to keep it free.

  • No. of bugs

Very few bugs, plays all compatible video and audio formats without jerks or ‘shadows’ during playback.

  • Audio codec

Supports major formats (MP3, WMA, M4A, AAC) without interruption. Does not support phone compatible formats like AMR, OGG.

  • Video codec

Supports all major video formats including the AVI formats (DIVX, XVID, etc) and other formats too like 3GP. Does not support MP4 and playback of broken AVI files is inconsistent. Plays all files without shadows & glares.

  • Playlist Navigation

Does not support playlists except a ‘favorites’ list and a ‘now playing’ list.

  • Privacy

Saves the last opened directory, does not save MRU’s (most recently used lists) though.

Other Details

Spyware, adware & Virus free?

Totally badware free.

Disk space occupied:

Installer size – ~ 4MB

Installed directory size – ~20MB

Overall (3.5/5):

A good player sufficient for light ‘media users’. Suitable as a secondary player.
