We are all guilty of forgetting a password we assign at some point when hurriedly signing up for a service. Usually, this happens when we sign up for a service we’d need to use only once to gain access to a product or use a service. This could also happen with IM. You might want to get in touch with someone who uses an IM not so popular in your community so you sign up, use it a couple times and never use it again.
A while later you might need it again for some reason and if you didn’t happen to remember your login details you are going to have to make a new account again…or you could use Messenger Key.
Messenger Key is a freeware utility that lets you recover passwords for ICQ, MSN, Google Talk and Yahoo instant messengers. A tiny utility that does exactly what it says. However you will have to have signed in your computer at some point previously for Messenger Key to retrieve your password.
I tried the application with Google Talk and (to my surprise) my password instantly showed up in the application window. Trying it again with Windows Live Messenger however I wasn’t so lucky. So I guess it’s hit-and-miss and the app still deserves an ovation as it gives you a shot at recovering a password you forgot out of your carelessness.
