Fed up of long URL’s?

Computer Trouble? Fix It!

Ever wanted to share a link online? Sure you have! The Internet is filled with content and a good part of it is interesting and worth sharing. Be it on a forum, social network during a chat conversation, via email or anything else. Unfortunately URL’s may not be as convenient to be shared. Based on the script used to run the website URL’s may turn out to be very long and very inconvenient when sharing.

Thanks to LopURL, you can now shorten all your long URL’s into simpler, shorter URL’s ready to be shared. LopURL is a website I just launched to shorten URL’s and redirect them to the original URL. Here’s an example, you can turn this http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=mtM&q=Facebook&btnG=Search to http://lopurl.net/3!The shorter URL quickly and seamlessly redirects to you original longer URL.

Apart from sharing, if you are an affiliate marketer LopURL can be used to hide affiliate (referral) links as well. This is an efficient feature as many users are aware of referral links and sometimes remove the referrer ID before visiting the referral link. With LopURL this can be prevented.

Also, it can be used to shorten ‘mailto:’ links, you can see an example for this as well on the LopURL website.

The name was derived from ‘lop’ which means to ‘cut off from a whole’ as in to ‘cut’ the URL thus lopURL.

LopURL has been launched and may contain bugs, don’t forget to try LopURL by shortening any URL and leave any feedback below. With time more features and customization will be added.

The only instance where short urls make any sense in my opinion is Twitter (which does it automatically), due to the 140 character limit on messages. The affiliate trick makes some sense, if you are into that. I would just put the honest url there and let people do what they want. The url contains information. Why do you think Google puts the url on every search result. They don’t waste screen space. The url text is valuable info, losing it is not a good strategy.

You give me a really good idea, I had never personally thought about that! That can be useful, especially for forums that don’t allow affiliate links, that would be a great way to hide em, lol.

sometimes you really need to used this services, yes it good to put honest url if the url is short and got meaning, but if the url is long with unknown code and some more, you don’t have enough space then better to shorten your url.

    Hi,
Just to inform you, in case you were not already aware, that the name Lopurl is already taken as a URL Shortening service. The URL for this is lopurl.us and has been registered since Feb 17 2009. I see that yours however was registered April 24, 2009. I don’t mind the fact that yours is up there, it doesn’t bother me. I just thought i’d let you know that the name has already been used.

well, i wasn’t aware of that, i only looked at the .com to find it was parked and the .net was available so i assumed it wasn’t used. however i might consider changing it, i haven’t really started marketing the site though. I’m guessing you are the owner of lopurl.us, thanks for the info.
