Rating description
- Interface
Stylish interface. Uses a ‘speedometer’ interface to display download acceleration
- Ease of use
Very easy to use. Supports automatic integration so you won’t have to manually copy the download URL to download a file. Uses non-technical terms.
- Memory usage
Consumes very little memory.
- Popularity
Could be called the most popular download manager available.
- Price
While DAP has a premium version as well it could be negligible as the free version is good enough.
- No. of bugs
Doesn’t contain any noticeable bugs
- Download acceleration
Accelerates download by upto 400% with comparison to a web browser’s speeds. A very good speed increase in comparison with other download managers.
- Maximum no. of download streams
While this may not matter much beyond five streams, the more streams you have, it squeezes the maximum out of your connection and 10 streams is good enough.
- Compatibility
Supports all major browsers including IE 6 & 7, Mozilla Firefox and Opera.
- Bandwidth cooperation
This could be configured in the preferences and while selecting full bandwidth for DAP may result in very slow simultaneous surfing speeds; this may not be a problem as it could be configured accordingly.
Other details
Badware free?
The free version of DAP is adware. it displays a banner at the bottom of a file download window. The ads are apparently ‘harmless’ links and are usually advertisements of the PRO version of DAP.
Disk space required
Installer - ~5MB
Installed disk space - ~10MB
Limitations in the free version:
File download window cannot be minimized to tray. Ads displayed in download window and slower download speeds (negligible).
Overall (4.5/5):
One of the best download managers available which does what a download manager does: manages and speeds up your downloads.
The above review maybe updated as new version of the program are released.
