CommentLuv, DoFollow, Post Ratings and Full Feeds!

Author: luq | Files under Blogging, Miscellaneous, software, the internet

I’ve added a lot more functionality to the blog to benefit our site visitors. Firstly the CommentLuv plugin which searches your last feed entry from the website you provide and displays it below your comment. So, the more you comment you now get more exposure to your blog or site!

CommentLuv

The next thing I did was remove the blog’s default NoFollow feature to comments. It was implemented by default to keep spammers away but with Akismet working it’s a** off to keep spam away (and it’s doing an excellent job) I thought NoFollow could be removed to help commenters get a few backlinks. I was able to do it with this hack made simple in Doug’s post.

Well, the next thing is the PostRatings plugin which allows you to rate a post from 1 to 5, with this plugin it’ll help you pick up the special posts from the rest of the heap, currently since the plugin has just been installed there aren’t enough ratings to have a ‘top rated’ list of posts but with time I’ll probably add the ‘Top Rated’ posts to the sidebar to make it easier for you to get to the content easily. Please don’t abuse this system by giving a 5 for a post which you thought sucked and vice versa!

Post Ratings

And, finally I decided to let you see entire posts when you subscribe to Computer Realm feeds instead of just a summary to make life easier for my dear subscribers. I initially allowed only summaries because I was worried about scrapers stealing my content, then I thought…what the hell?! Keeping things convenient for my subscribers is more important!

P.S. sorry for not posting over the last few days, had to take care of a few things, I’ll try to post regularly from now onwards.

Have a great day!

I don’t understand why more website owners don’t do this, I mean yes some people do want to just leave spam to gain backlinks for their site. But the website box is there for a reason, I see it as a reward for adding extra content to the website.

That’s why i’ve done the best i can to reward commenters who add content to the site, i think the webmasters are worried about spam, as it becomes difficult to handle, with thousands of spam comments daily with these features turned on, but for now i guess i can handle the spam coming in,thanks to Akismet.

It took me a whole to locate the solution but if you are interested, I have described in details how to address it on my blog.

I’ve noticed a huge difference in the number and quality of comments after I installed CommentLuv. Especially when people see I approve comments that are of value in bot information and aren’t simply one liners that want to get links back to their site.

I would encourage anyone who has a blog to seriously consider installing the CommentLuv plugin and at least consider removing the nofollow tag. Sure you might get a few spam comments, but you can always delete these instead of approving. Remember, comments are content for your site, fresh content, and if the person leaving the comment has written something of value then it can help when the search spiders crawl your site for fresh content.

    Interesting!
CommentLuv helps you reward your commentators by separating their name from their keywords in the link to their site. This gives them improved anchor text, which can help their site rank higher in the search engine results.
You can now leave a comment with your name as well as a keyword of your choice here and get a PR5 link back to your site! How cool is that? People pay big bucks for that and all you have to do is comment here.

Well, getting the link back is one plus point, but if u use the keyword that u want your web page to show for as your username and if the keyword is not a popular one it might race your site to the first page however i would not recommend it as it looks spammy this way and if u really want to build a good blog you wouldn’t want potential loyal visitors thinking you ’spammed’ to get your site popular…thanks for the comment!
