We’ve all probably felt the need to cover our tracks at some point for some reason or we’ve at least been bored. In either case editing the date stamp of a file can always come in handy. I’m quite sure there is a complicated way of doing this, but thanks to the redundancy of software developers there are quite a few freeware application that can do this for you.
SetFileDate (Windows) is a great freeware application that allows you to do this. It comprises of a simple interface with an easy file explorer (heads up, hidden and system files are shown!) to easily adjust date and time stamps of any file. There are quite a few others alternatives available in software indexes but SetFileDate is pretty much what you are looking for.
If you are a Mac user you might want to check out this post to achieve this. If you are aware of any software alternatives to edit date stamps on Mac operating systems, please share it in the comments.

I have found PropertiesPlus 1.65 the absolute best method to setting (or resetting) the date/time stamp of one or more files. It works with Windows 95 up to Windows XP but does not work on Windows 7 64-bit unfortunately. I found it extremely helpful when transferring date info from old videos to newly converted videos…same for modifying family pictures. If only it could work in newer operating systems.
