British Schools to stick with older versions of Microsoft products

Author: luq | Files under news, software

The agency governing education technology in the UK has requested schools and educational institutes in the UK to prevent from upgrading to Vista and Office ’07. The obvious reason being the investment needed to upgrade to the latest versions of Microsoft’s products.

Also with Office ’07 supporting different file formats it may cause software compatibility problems as well pointed out Becta ( British Educational Communications and Technology Agency)

They also said that there is no distinctive upgrade in terms of benefits compared to the cost required. Upgrading to Vista and Office 2007 may be considered as new PC’s are bought. But still, with powerful competing free software like OpenOffice a lot will be looked into before PC’s are upgraded with the latest version of Office and Windows.

The decision whether of upgrading software to British educational centers could end up costing millions of dollars to Microsoft.
