to pass on the page rank from your wordpress.com blog you’ll need to setup a 301(permanent) redirect from your wordpress.com blog and unfortunately wordpress.com does not support that if you are looking to switch to the wordpress.org hosted version, you’ll have to rebuild your page rank.

Reducing the number of external links as much as possible in your wordpress.com blog and linking to your new domain name only would give you a good page rank in the next update for the new domain as a good chunk from the pr4 would be passed on as that’s how page rank is calculated, divided based on the number of external links on that website.

Please one last question. My worpress.com blog has a PR4 will that still be tranfered when I host with an independeny hosting company?

The best way to go is do it yourself, select a good host, i use godaddy, get a relevant hosting package (there are godaddy coupons everywhere if you wanta discount), setup wordpress on your hosting account (if you don’t know how to do this, godaddy has a 1-click installation for this). Then backup your wordpress.com posts and restore it on your new hosted wordpress and that’s about it.

PS – godaddy has quite a bit of bad press, but IMO i’ve used godaddy for over a year without any short comings so its your call.

Luq, Do you know of a firm that can transfer a wordpress.com to a .com including hosting etc. I have a wp.com acct but would like to have more control like ads .Thanks for the explanation.

that is true if you are referring to the shared wordpress(wordpress.com), downloading the wordpress software and hosting it on your own website provides just as much functionality as blogger does. Apart from that in terms of plugins and themes, wordpress (again wordpress.org) would still be the better blogging platform.
