Best Anti-Spyware?

Author: luq | Filed under software

Though Spyware hasn’t been around as much as viruses have been, the number of anti spyware options available may be even more than the number of anti virus programs available.

Compared to Anti virus software developers anti-spyware companies are less money minded.(though some antivirus programs have a parallel anti spyware program up and running as well) there are more free good anti spyware programs available and that makes it harder to decide what’s the best anti spyware program available.

There are many free solutions available like Spybot, ad aware se personal, spyware blaster, etc.Of course when it comes to free versions while one software may be crippled off one feature the other may have it and so on.

So it’s advisable to use more than one anti spyware program if you are sticking to freeware. For example the personal edition of ad aware does not have real time protection but has the best detection rate (based on my personal use), while Spybot has real time protection as well but a less detection rate.

So while you keep Spybot on the whole time preventing the general spyware, you might wanna run an ad aware scan at the end of the day to catch those rare spyware.

If you are looking for a shareware application one should be sufficient coz it provides all the features in one. Here again different people have their views on what is the best. Leading the table would be Spyware doctor, Ad aware SE professional and Webroot.

My personal favorite Ad aware SE professional.

I’ve stayed loyal to this software from day one. When I wasn’t much knowledgeable about spyware earlier. My pc was basically trapped in this net of spyware. Bombarded by browser hijacks, millions of popups, tracking cookies and toolbars I soon realized that these were caused by something called spyware.

Trying every free solution at the time I settled for ad aware last because its name was just an extra ‘a’ to adware I kept away from it thinking it was hoax spyware software.

Trying Spybot, spyware doctor and Webroot they didn’t really clean my pc, the toolbars remained, the popups remained and they detected an average of 50 odd threats. Giving ad aware a try it detected 300 odd threats with an outdated definition file! got rid of my popups, toolbars,..blah blah.

While I tried these out I noticed that Spybot took forever to scan,

Webroot took an hour or something just to load, spyware doctor was the only other good looking software but it just didn’t get rid of the junk. The bottom line ad aware has the best detection rate, consumes little memory and scans fast. That’s basically all you need.

I would strongly recommend you try ad aware if you are planning on purchasing an Anti Spyware software. The professional edition(suitable for one computer for home or office use) costs just $40,a real bargain for the package.

If you are looking for freeware then I suggest you use the free

personal edition of ad aware.

There are many other free options out there as well. I actually stopped using SpyBot and AdAware a while ago and I currently use Malware Bytes AntiMalware and SuperAntiSpyware. I’ve had the best luck with them.

I am currently doing a test to see which spyware blockers (not removers) really are best. I am testing both freeware and commercial programs and I would love to see what you have to say about it.
