Renaming files is no big deal really, with today’s easy to use operating systems all you need to do is right click the file, click rename, rename the file, and you’re done, but just like everything else doing something over and over can become monotonous, boring and even annoying and well, renaming files isn’t an exception.
Now, it’s not everyday that you’ll need to rename several hundred files at once, but if there’s an automated way to do it whenever you need to, it always makes life easier. Ken Rename is a tiny freeware utility that does just that. Ken Rename is a Windows (2k, XP, Vista) only application that lets you rename multiple files at once, of course if you need to rename multiple files with completely unique names with no similarity to each other you are still stuck with renaming each file one by one.
However, with Ken Rename if you need to make similar or progressive changes to several file names at once, Ken Rename will probably do the job for you. It lets you change cases of files, create a progressive rename (a numbered file list for example), replace a certain string in several files, keep only specific characters in a bunch of files. It also supports ID3 tags and lets you preview any changes before you make them, this coupled with the feature of undoing any changes pampers all your carelessness as well so you could reverse any accidental changes you might make.
It also comes with a portable version so you can maintain your files on your portable device wherever you are. If you are looking for an app that does mass renaming efficiently Ken Rename is probably a good choice. Share your comments or reviews on the application below.
