Almost everyone who owns a computer has experienced a system slowdown at one time or another. Initially, this slowing down may go unnoticed, but soon you may start noticing the symptoms more frequently. For instance, your computer may respond very slowly to every action and it may take forever to open a program. Your internet may also become extremely slow.
Slowdowns usually occur along with a range of other computer problems, such as frequent system freezes and crashes. Over time, your computer’s speed may become so slow that it is almost impossible to get any work done at all.
Although sometimes this problem can be attributed to hardware and you may need replacement or upgrading, most of the problems associated with computer slow down issues can be prevented as well as resolved by understanding the cause of the problem and taking some easy preventive measures.
Let us now have a look at 3 simple ways in which you can prevent several PC problems and speed up your computer.
Get Rid of Malware
If you notice a sudden deterioration in your computer’s speed, experience frequent unwarranted errors, receive pop up ads, or see suspicious processes, such as d.exe, running on your PC, then it is quite likely that your PC is infected by some kind of malware, such as a virus, Trojan horse, worm, spyware or adware. To fight these malicious infections, you need to be equipped with updated antimalware tools, such as antivirus and antispyware. You must be sure to update your antimalware tools daily and schedule daily full system scans to ensure that your PC stays free from malware programs at all times. We also recommended that you implement an efficient firewall to block all unwanted incoming traffic to your computer or network.
Disable or Uninstall Programs You Don’t Use
When you install your computer and drivers, many programs such as mdm.exe and hkcmd.exe are added to it. Although useful, these programs may load at system startup and keep running even when you don’t actually use them. If this is the case, it is best that you disable these programs from starting at system startup. You can do this by using the Windows System Configuration Utility or a third-party startup program manager tool. If you have a branded PC, then it is quite likely that your PC is loaded with shareware software that you don’t need. If this is the case, you may use the Add or Remove Programs utility or a good third-party program uninstaller to completely remove these programs from your system.
Clean Your Registry
The Windows registry works hard in the background providing your software and hardware all information they require to perform various tasks. The registry can do this because it is a database in which all configuration information of your Windows PC is stored. As your PC gets older, the registry bloats up because it gets filled up with large amounts of unwanted information. A boated registry not only generates errors but also slows down your PC. So, the next thing that you need to do to speed up your computer is to scan and clean your registry. A simple and efficient way to perform registry maintenance is by using a good registry cleaner tool.
