A new service named Qtrax is to be launched providing totally free ad-supported music for download featuring over 25,000,000 songs. A file sharing service which allows tracks to be downloaded from major labels including Sony BMG, Universal Music ad Warner Music.
The service will be funded through ads displayed while downloaded songs are been played by users in the Qtrax player. The service is new and the first beta of the player is yet to be launched.
Also, other advantages include malware and popup ad free service to compete with other P2P services. The aim of Qtrax is to establish a legal file-sharing service to drive users from other P2P services like Limewire which has been criticized strongly for freely distributing copyrighted illegal music.
Surprisingly, Qtrax is not the first service that provide free legal downloadable music. Other services like SpiralFrog also provides a similar ad-supported free music downloading service from Universal music.

I recently found a site I like http://www.jango.com You pick some artists you like and then they play songs by those artists and similar ones. You can rate songs and they use that to refine you playlist. They don’t have any ads. My guess is they make money if you buy music through the site…

There are plenty of legal sites which let you listen to music online and pay if you want to download them, the difference with Qtrax is they let you download the songs itself for free and make the music cost by displaying ads as you download the song.
