A typical December 31st post well, lets get to it. 2008 was a year to remember in general, including software. The software below aren’t necessarily new software released in 2008 but software that i found over the year and found to come in very handy.
The following products include Addons and mobile applications as well.
Format Factory is a versatile ‘all-in-one’ freeware media converter, converting all popular formats of audio, video and images including separate converting ‘profiles’ for portable media devices.
FireGestures is an addon I recently spoke on in my Mouse Gestures post. It allows you to control all major functions of your browser using just your mouse speeding up things while you surf.
CCleaner is a great system optimizing tool allowing you to free up disk space deleting files you would never use again and fix registry issues. I use this program frequently to gain some hard disk space and to ‘lubricate’ my OS.
DownloadHelper is a great Firefox addon allowing you to easily safe embedded videos off any website. It also contains a free video converter which requires registration for non-watermark conversion though. (which is why there is Format Factory)
Shareware mobile media player in par with standard computer media players with the wide range of formats supported including AVI, MPG, WMV and FLV.
Similar to the windows application Launchy, SkyeQuikey can render all your mobile’s navigation buttons useless by giving you access to your contacts and applications just by typing the item (based on the dictionary) you require on your phone’s standby screen.
Tempomail is an Addon that lets you combat spam by quickly generating disposable email addresses for registrations that redirect to your primary email for a time you specify.
ooVoo is a free communication tool that lets you hold video conversations with 6 participants at once. Great when you want a reunion with your friends who are in different time zones!
Speedfan gives you a wealth of information on your computer’s hardware state specifically the temperatures of your computer components among several other details.
Okay, this is from Computer Realm, but it was still useful for me, Disk Heal lets you fix disk access issues like the ‘open with’ dialog when you try opening your hard drive after a virus infection and also performs various other tweaks.
